Truecaller holiday BSNL is bringing its cool Caller Name service, now the real name of the caller will be visible without the app

News India Live, Digital Desk: If you are also troubled by spam calls and fake callers coming from unknown numbers, then now you will not need to keep foreign apps like ‘Truecaller’ in your mobile. Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is working on an indigenous technology that will directly flash the real name of the caller on your screen based on your SIM card and KYC data. This new service has been named CNAP (Calling Name Presentation), which is set to be implemented soon in the entire country. What is BSNL’s CNAP service and how will it work? Currently, apps like Truecaller show names through ‘crowdsourcing’, which can sometimes be wrong or even funny. But BSNL’s CNAP service will be completely ‘KYC based’. This means that when someone calls you, his real name (which is on the Aadhaar or ID card) recorded in the telecom company’s database will appear on your screen. For this, the user will not need to download any extra app in his phone, this feature will work only at the network level of the phone. There will be big integration with Jio, Airtel and Vi. It is reported that BSNL will not limit this service only to its network. As per the directions of telecom regulator TRAI, BSNL is planning to integrate this technology with Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea (Vi). The advantage of this will be that even if a Jio user calls a BSNL user, his correct name will be visible. This ‘inter-operability’ is expected to drastically reduce the incidents of fraud and cyber fraud. Why is this a big threat to truckers? Till now, Truecaller had a monopoly in the market, but questions have often been raised regarding privacy. This new service of BSNL will be subject to government security standards and there will be little risk of data leakage. Since this feature will work only in the in-built dialer of the phone, it will prove to be a game changer for crores of Indians using low-end smartphones or feature phones. Spam calls and cyber fraud will be curbed. The main objective of the government is to make Digital India safe. After the implementation of CNAP service, it will become easier to identify the gangs that commit fraud by posing as bank officers or government employees. People will be able to know whether the call is really urgent before picking up an unknown number. It is being told that the trial of this service is in the final stages and it can be rolled out commercially soon.
