Trump, angry at Iran for not joining the war, said – ‘NATO countries are cowards, without America they are paper tigers…’

Washington, March 20. US President Donald Trump on Friday lashed out against NATO countries for their non-involvement in the Iran war. He lambasted NATO allies and even called them ‘cowards’.

In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump called the alliance a ‘paper tiger’ without American support. He criticized NATO countries for complaining about high oil prices but not wanting to help secure the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said, ‘Without America, NATO countries are just paper tigers. They do not want to join the fight to stop a nuclear-armed Iran. Now that that battle has been won militarily and the threat has greatly diminished, they complain about the high oil prices they have to pay. But they don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, which is a simple military move and also the sole reason for high oil prices. How easy it is for them to do this and how little risk there is in it. We will remember this, you cowards.

NATO countries refuse to join the war

Trump’s comments came after several countries did not respond or refused to join his call to deploy warships to protect merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is an important waterway

The Strait of Hormuz is an important waterway through which about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil passes. The standoff came as global oil prices surged 40% to 50% following Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and waves of missile and drone attacks in the Gulf region. These attacks were carried out as a retaliation to the war started by America and Israel on February 28.

No need for allies’ support for military operations – Trump

Earlier, Trump had said that America does not need the support of its allies to continue military operations against Iran. He also told that many NATO countries refused to participate in this campaign.

NATO is changing its position regarding Iraq.

NATO spokeswoman Alison Hart said, ‘We are changing our position regarding the NATO mission in Iraq. We are working in coordination with allies and partners. The safety and security of our personnel is paramount. However, NATO spokeswoman did not give further information in this regard. Political dialogue and practical cooperation between NATO and Iraq will continue.

Washington’s emphasis on China and Indo-Pacific region

According to media reports, America is pressurizing Europe to take responsibility for its own defense. This change in US strategy has direct significance for India as Washington is focusing its attention on China and the Indo-Pacific region.

However, at the hearing of the Armed Services Committee of the US House of Representatives, US lawmakers and defense officials made it clear that NATO remains the center of US strategy. Chairman Mike Rogers warned against premature reductions of US forces in Europe, saying that premature troop withdrawal would encourage Russian aggression.
