Trump said – will release frozen assets only after final deal

Washington. US President Donald Trump has made it clear that Tehran’s frozen assets will not be released nor will there be any relaxation in economic sanctions until a final and comprehensive agreement is reached with Iran. In a special interview given in the program ‘Meet the Press’, Trump said that Lebanon will not be a part of this agreement. He stressed that any reduction in economic pressure would come only if Iran agrees to a comprehensive deal and strictly adheres to all its commitments.

When asked if he could be granted access to sanctions relief or freeze assets before a temporary agreement is reached, Trump replied that later… yes. If they behave well and do the right thing then we will move forward. During this, Trump also clarified that he is not putting any pressure on Lebanon to include it in any short-term agreement with Tehran. He said that I think they would like to see it, but I am not insisting on it.

  • President Trump said that any future agreement would include other important conditions besides preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He indicated that the US and Iran would work together to remove and destroy Iran’s highly enriched uranium. Trump said that if we make this agreement that we are friendly now, then we will all go together. This will be our tool. We will take it out and destroy it… whether it is on the premises or taken outside. He also warned that if the talks failed, the US would take ‘very strong military action’.

On the other hand, Iran has consistently denied Trump’s claims. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bagai said there was no agreement to transfer enriched uranium, nor was any such proposal made in the talks. Let us tell you that American and Israeli forces started attacks on Iran on 28 February. There remains much uncertainty about Iran’s nuclear sites after the attacks.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), before the attacks in June 2025, Iran had about 440 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium, far more than the limit set under the 2015 nuclear deal. At present, talks are going on between the two sides, but strictness is being taken from both the sides.
