Trump says “glad he’s dead” after Robert Mueller passes away

Robert Mueller, the former FBI Director and Special Counsel who led the high-profile investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 81. His death has drawn widespread attention, including reactions from political figures connected to the probe.

Mueller, a veteran public servant with a long career in law enforcement, served as FBI Director from 2001 to 2013 under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In 2017, he was appointed Special Counsel by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to examine potential links between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as allegations of obstruction of justice.

The Mueller Report, released in 2019, concluded there was no sufficient evidence of conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia but did not exonerate the president on obstruction matters, leaving that decision to Congress and the Attorney General.

Following news of Mueller’s death, US President Donald Trump reportedly reacted strongly on social media (likely Truth Social or similar platforms), stating: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!”

Mueller had been dealing with Parkinson’s disease in recent years, as noted by sources close to his family. His passing marks the end of a chapter in one of the most contentious political investigations in modern U.S. history.

Tributes from across the political spectrum have highlighted Mueller’s service, integrity, and Marine Corps background (he served in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart). Reactions remain polarized, underscoring the deep divisions the Russia probe created.
