Trump’s big bet again in America, will address the nation on election security

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump will address the nation on election security on Thursday night. According to White House sources, the speech will be held in primetime and issues of voting system, election management and foreign interference may be raised in it. This speech is coming at a time when midterm elections are to be held in November and the Republican Party is facing a tough fight.

What can happen in a speech?

According to a Reuters report, the White House is considering whether Trump will make public some sensitive intelligence related to China’s intention to interfere in the 2020 elections. This data is said to be for the tenure of 2017 to 2021. However, sources say that it was not found in that information that Beijing had tampered with the votes.

Some of Trump’s advisors fear that leaking incomplete information could create confusion. The White House Task Force led by John Solomon has been seeking and reviewing documents related to intelligence agencies for the past weeks. White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said there is no decision yet what Trump will say in the speech. The DNI and CIA declined to comment.

Claims of 2020 again in headlines!

Trump has been questioning the 2020 election results for years. They allege that the defeat against Joe Biden was due to rigging. He has also made many claims regarding mail-in voting, voting machines and voting for non-citizens. Multiple courts and recounts found no evidence of large-scale fraud in 2020.

After returning to office, Trump has tried to increase the role of the central government in election management. They are also pushing for the ‘SAVE America Act’. In this bill, it will be mandatory for the states to share photo ID, proof of citizenship and voter list with the center for voting. Democrats say voter fraud is very rare and this law would block real voters.

Pressure on Republicans before midterms

Senate Leader John Thune said the party’s focus is now on the 2026 elections. Many Republican leaders are advising Trump to talk about inflation and everyday issues instead of 2020. Democrats need only 3 seats for majority in the House. It is difficult for him to win the Senate because many contests are in Republican states.

Democratic leader Chuck Schumer alleged that the White House is preparing to manipulate the election. It is not yet decided whether TV networks will give airtime to Trump or not. Many Democrats, including AOC, have called on the network to decline. Their argument is that this will spread misinformation again. Trump’s ratings are already low amid the Iran war and rising energy prices. In such a situation, this speech can decide the direction of midterms.
