Trump's big decision: DEI programs banned
After Donald Trump took oath as President, decisions are being taken rapidly in America. The Trump administration has ordered federal employees involved in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to be placed on paid leave and to end these programs. The Office of Personnel Management issued a memorandum in this regard on Tuesday.
Restrictions on DEI programs
According to the memo, all federal agencies have been asked to place DEI office employees on paid leave and remove all DEI-focused webpages by Wednesday evening. Additionally, any training programs or contracts related to DEI must also be cancelled. If an attempt is made to continue a DEI program by changing its name, it will have to be reported to the administration within 10 days.
Trump's anti-DEI executive order
Trump signed an executive order on his first day as president ordering the end of the federal government's diversity and inclusion programs. The decision will affect programs ranging from anti-bias training to financing for minority farmers and homeowners.
Biden vs Trump: Decisions reversed
Before Trump's order, Joe Biden had issued 2 executive orders to promote DEI programs at the beginning of his term. The Trump administration has now canceled these orders. Trump accused the Biden administration of implementing “discriminatory” policies through DEI programs.
Anti-DEI campaign on corporate world
The Trump administration also plans to launch investigations into private companies using the Justice Department and other agencies. This investigation will focus on companies that follow diversity and inclusion-based recruitment and training policies. Trump believes that such policies discriminate against non-minority groups, such as white men.
aggressive attitude
Trump's new anti-DEI agenda is considered more aggressive than before. This agenda will influence the corporate world as well as federal policies. However, these changes may take months or years to be fully implemented.
What is the way forward?
This decision of Trump is a continuation of the actions of his previous administration. In his first term, a ban on anti-bias training was imposed from the use of federal funds. Now this new anti-DEI agenda has made it clear that Trump is going to be more strict in his stance.
It will be interesting to see how deep the impact of Trump's decision is on federal employees, private companies and American society.
