Trump’s open threat to Iran: America will not remain a mute spectator to violent protests, ready to intervene

Washington/Tehran. US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to the Iranian regime amid the ongoing violent protests in Iran, saying that America will not remain a mute spectator if peaceful protesters are repressed. In a message released on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’, Trump made it clear that America is fully prepared to intervene if the Iranian government shoots at or kills protesters.

He wrote, “If Iran shoots at peaceful protesters and kills them brutally, which is their habit, the US will come to their aid. We have taken aim and are ready to move forward.” This message of the US President has come at a time when widespread public anger is being seen in many cities of Iran for the last five days regarding inflation and unemployment.

It is noteworthy that anti-government protests are going on in Iran these days. This crisis has deepened after the historic decline in the country’s currency ‘Rial’. At present the price of one American dollar has reached the level of about 14.2 lakh riyals.

Due to this economic crisis, traders in major markets including the Grand Bazaar of Tehran have gone on strike. These protests, which initially started with only economic demands, have now taken the form of a political movement and the protesters are demanding changes in the governance system of the country.

Meanwhile, at least six people have been reported killed so far in violent clashes between security forces and protesters. The Iranian administration has accused Western countries of being behind these demonstrations. Iran’s intelligence agencies claim that foreign forces are plotting a coup in the country and want to destabilize the Islamic regime under the guise of protests.

Apart from Tehran, however, the fire of protest is continuously spreading in cities like Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and Kermanshah. The situation remains extremely tense, especially in the areas under the influence of the Lur community. International observers believe that Trump’s latest warning may further increase the already ongoing tension between Tehran and Washington.
