Moth dal is rich in essential nutrients like protein, fiber, vitamins (like folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin C) and minerals (iron, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus). All these nutrients are essential for better functioning of the body and good health. So let us know the method of making moth dal.

Ingredients to make Moonth Dal:

For dal:
– Moonth Dal (Mong Dal) – 1 cup
– Water – 3-4 cups (for cooking dal)
– Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
– Salt – as per taste

Tadka:
Oil or ghee – 2 tbsp
– Cumin – 1/2 tsp
– Hing – 1 pinch
– Ginger – 1 tsp (grated)
– Green chilli – 1 (chopped)
– Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
– Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
– Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
– Coriander powder – 1 tsp
– Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
– Kasuri Methi – 1/2 tsp (optional)
– Fresh coriander leaves – for garnish

How to make Moonth Dal

1. Cooking Dal:
1. Wash month dal thoroughly and soak it for 30 minutes.
2. Add dal, turmeric powder, salt and 3-4 cups of water in a pressure cooker.
3. Cook the dal in a pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles.
4. Boil the dal till it becomes slightly thick and let it cook on low flame.

2. Prepare tadka:
1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan.
2. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida and let it splutter.
3. Now add grated ginger and chopped green chillies, and fry for 1-2 minutes.
4. Add onion and fry until it turns golden.
5. Add tomatoes and cook well until tomatoes become soft.
6. Then, add red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala. Fry the spices well.

3. Mix dal and tadka:
1. Add the tempering to the boiled month dal and mix well.
2. If the dal is thick, add some more water and mix it well.
3. Let the dal cook on low flame for 5-10 minutes, so that the tadka and dal mix well.
4. Add kasoori methi (if using) and cook for 1 minute.

4. Garnish and serve:
1. Garnish the dal with fresh coriander leaves.
2. Serve hot month dal with roti, paratha or rice. This recipe is a great way to add a special flavor and healthy option to your meals.
