TTE Rahul Kumar suspended after alleged rape of NCC cadet in AC first-class coach of Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express

A travelling ticket examiner (TTE), identified as Rahul Kumar, has been suspended after being accused of raping a 22-year-old woman inside the AC first-class coach of the Gorakhpur-Ahmedabad Express. Railway authorities have confirmed that cases have been registered, and Government Railway Police (GRP) teams from Gorakhpur and Deoria have been deployed to arrest the accused, who is currently absconding.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on Sunday when the young woman, an NCC cadet from Mau, was returning to Gorakhpur after appearing for her NCC ‘C’ certificate examination. Due to heavy rush, she reportedly could not secure a ticket and boarded the train. The accused TTE allegedly threatened her with action for travelling without a ticket and then offered her a seat in the AC first-class coach. The woman has accused him of sexually assaulting her there.

The victim called the emergency helpline 112 following the incident. The accused allegedly got off the train at Bhatni railway station after the train passed through the Indara–Deoria section. Police are investigating the exact location of the crime, with preliminary findings suggesting the incident may have occurred near Salempur.

The GRP has registered an FIR under relevant sections related to rape and misuse of official position. A medical examination of the victim is being conducted in Deoria, and her statement will be recorded. Joint teams of GRP and local police are conducting raids in Patna and other possible locations to trace the accused.

Railway authorities have also written to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Varanasi, seeking service details of the suspended TTE. Preparations are reportedly underway to announce a reward for information leading to his arrest.
