Turkish archrivals Fenerbahce, Galatasaray battle for Kevin Danso
Two archrivals competing for the championship in Türkiye, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, are reportedly competing for the transfer of 26-year-old Austrian defender Kevin Danso from French club Lens, according to French media.
The French sports news outlet The Team that Fenerbahce has submitted a €20 million ($20.51 million) bid for Danso, following the request of head coach Jose Mourinho. Galatasaray is also interested in the Austrian defender but has yet to make a formal move to secure his transfer.
Fenerbahce’s negotiations hit deadlock
Meanwhile, according to Turkish news outlet milliyet.com.trFenerbahce has reached an agreement with the player but has been unable to convince Lens to finalize the deal. The French club is reportedly unwilling to consider offers below €25 million, as Danso has attracted interest from multiple suitors.
On the other hand, Turkish sports journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reported that negotiations with Lens were suspended after talks reached a deadlock. According to Sabuncuoglu, the Istanbul-based club has decided to remove Danso from its transfer list as it seeks to finalize its defensive reinforcement plans quickly.
Who is Kevin Danso?
Kevin Danso, who is valued at €25 million according to Transfer marketis regarded as a key figure in Austria’s national defense lineup. Despite having a contract with Lens until 2027, reports indicate that he is on the club’s sale list.
This season, Danso appeared in 13 matches but has yet to contribute any goals or assists.
Galatasaray currently leads the Turkish Super League with 47 points after 17 matches, holding an eight-point lead over its closest rival, Fenerbahce, which has 39 points.
