Early life, career
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Bona is the youngest of five siblings. Initially, he played football as a midfielder, but he switched to basketball due to his height.
He began playing on makeshift courts, sometimes without a basketball, before his talent was spotted by Turkish coach Turkay Cakiroglu. At the age of 13, Bona moved to Türkiye and began his basketball career at Istanbul Basket.
In February 2019, he transferred to Pınar Karşıyaka, continuing his development in the youth leagues.
Bona made his professional debut for Pınar Karşıyaka on Oct.30, 2019, in a FIBA Europe Cup game against Donar. He also made his first appearance in the Turkish Basketball Super League (BSL) on November 16, 2019, scoring 2 points in a victory over Galatasaray.
High school career
In September 2020, Bona announced that he would continue his basketball career at Prolific Prep in Napa, California. He was ranked as a five-star recruit by prominent services and was considered one of the top players in the 2022 class.
On Nov. 1, 2021, Bona chose to play college basketball for UCLA after receiving an offer from Kentucky.
