An official statements about the ongoing efforts to bring Formula 1 (F1) organization to Türkiye excited many Turkish F1 fans.
Türkiye’s Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy responded to questions from parliament members during the 2025 budget discussions at the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Committee.
Minister Ersoy revealed that efforts are ongoing to reintegrate the Istanbul Racing Circuit into the Formula 1 calendar.
Last race at Istanbul Park took place in 2021. Bottas claimed victory in the race, also securing the fastest lap, while Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez finished second and third, respectively.
When the minister was asked about Turkiye’s ongoing negatiations with Formula 1 organization, he explained: “Don’t we all want Formula 1 to return to Istanbul? We are not the only ones vying for it—many cities worldwide are competing to secure Formula 1. Negotiations with the Formula 1 organization are ongoing in collaboration with the company running the track, and we hope to successfully conclude this process and bring Formula 1 back to Istanbul.”
Turkiye hosted its first-ever F1 race in 2005.
The circuit was managed by the Turkish company Intercity from October 2012 to March 2024. In April 2024, the operating rights were transferred to Can Bilim Eğitim Kurumları A.Ş. for a 30-year term.
With a new company running Istanbul Park since April 2024, Turkish F1 fans’ hopes to host a race at Istanbul Park have increased.
