Two Wheeler Sales Hit 10 Million Mark In H1 FY2025 For The First Time After 2019

India has become one of the largest markets for two wheelers. The two wheeler market in H1 FY 2025 saw an incredible 16% growth overall year-over-year. This was also after six years that the industry posted a sales of more than 10 million vehicles which was last seen in 2019.

The two wheeler segment in India comprises of scooters, motorcycles and mopeds, all three of which saw an incredible growth this year. The scooter sales were up by 22%, motorcycle sales were up by 16.31% and moped sales were up by 16.55%.

Another change in trend is the close of gap between the top manufacturers, Hero Motocorp and Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India with the former posting a 10% year-over-year growth while the latter had a massive 31% increase in growth closing the gap from previous years. Hero now has 28.92% share of the market while Honda has 28.34% share which puts them neck a neck.

Other manufacturers also saw good growth. TVS posted a year-over-year sales growth of 15% with a market share of 17%, Bajaj Auto did 15 year-over-year growth with a market share of 12%  and Suzuki sales also showed a year-over-year growth of 16% giving them a market share of 5%.

Royal Enfield posted a 1% decrease in sales over last year but Yamaha did clock 5% year-over-year growth. Ather Energy did quite well for itself posting a 30% growth with 64,718 units sold of their electric scooters.

With the festive season right on the horizon and in full swing, we expect to see this trend ever-growing and companies should post a positive year overall. We are still a little behind from where we were in 2019 but we will have to wait for the year to end to see the full picture.
