Tyrese Maxey passes Allen Iverson in major 76ers franchise milestone

Tyrese Maxey had himself a night against the Miami Heat on Thursday, dropping 28 points with 11 assists and five steals to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 124-117 win at Wells Fargo Center.

The victory pushed the Sixers to 33-26 after they managed to hold things together following another shaky third quarter. Joel Embiid set the tone early, posting up Bam Adebayo for a layup and putting the first seven points on the board for Philly.

Maxey joined in shortly after with a pair of long jumpers before really getting into his rhythm. As the first quarter wound down, he connected on a step-back three that pulled him even with Allen Iverson’s franchise record of 885 made threes.

Then he broke it just moments later. The scoreboard lit up with the new mark, and the crowd responded with “MVP” chants rolling through the building.

Maxey was not done yet, knocking down his fifth triple of the opening frame to cap a 20-point quarter. After the period ended, the Sixers played a tribute video recognizing the achievement.
