U-turn of winter in North India: Mercury in minus in the mountains, warning of cold wave in the plains; Know today’s weather

As the first week of December passes, cold has started showing its real and scary form. If you live in Delhi, UP, Rajasthan or Punjab, then do not be careless now because the Meteorological Department has made it clear that the next few days are going to be very heavy. The icy winds coming from the mountains have engulfed the plains and the temperature is falling rapidly. Today (4 December 2025) the situation has become even more serious. The cold has increased in Delhi-NCR, while the cold wave in Rajasthan has imprisoned people in their homes. Condition of the mountains: Water turned into ice, roads closed. First of all, let’s talk about where this cold is coming from. Heavy snowfall is occurring in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Srinagar: Paraminus 4 (-4°C) degree has been recorded here. Many water sources including Dal Lake have started freezing. High altitude areas: On some high peaks of Himachal and Kashmir, the temperature has reached minus 18 degrees (-18°C). Rohtang Pass and many roads are closed due to snow. These icy winds are directly bringing chill in the plains. ‘Yellow alert’ in the plains: Delhi, UP and Punjab. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this time winter may break the records of the last several decades, and the reason for this is the effect of ‘La Nina’. Delhi: The minimum temperature in the capital today is expected to be 10-12 degrees, but from tomorrow (December 5) there is a possibility of a cold wave here. There are full chances. Yellow alert has been issued. Uttar Pradesh: Melting has increased here also. Today the minimum temperature is expected to be up to 8°C. Dense fog in the morning and cold winds during the day will trouble people. Punjab-Haryana: Here the mercury has fallen rapidly and cold wave-like conditions have arisen. Rajasthan: People are shivering in 3 degrees. Cold has started hitting hard in the desert state of Rajasthan. Sikar (Fatehpur): The condition here is the worst. The mercury has dropped to 3 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur Shekhawati. Mount Abu: The temperature here is around or below 0 degrees. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave Kyello alert for Churu, Jhunjhunu and Sikar. What will happen next? IMD says that from December to February 2026, the entire North and Central India (some parts of MP, Maharashtra) will be in the grip of severe cold. The temperature will remain below normal in the coming days. Advice: Now is the time to remove the inner and muffler along with the sweater. Be extremely careful especially while traveling in the morning and night.
