All 10 Indian women advance to final
India’s women pugilists continued their dominating run at the U19 World Boxing Championships 2024 after making the final of all the ten weight categories in the women’s segment of the competition.
Nisha (51 Kg), Supriya Devi Thokchom (54 Kg), and Parthavi Grewal (65 Kg) are the final three boxers to have booked their spot in the final at the Pueblo Convention Centre in Colorado, USA on Wednesday.
With this, India now has reached the gold medal bout in all the 10 categories.
The final set of bouts will take place from November 1st to 2nd.
Supriya sets the tone
Supriya Devi started the day for India with a win against Bozhena Melnyk of Ukraine in the semifinal of women’s 54 Kg. She will now take on Caitlyn Wise of England in the summit clash.
Nisha and Parthavi continued the Indian dominance in the tournament by winning their respective semi-final bouts against American (Laila Zakirova) and Australian (Indianna Timms) boxers respectively.
Nisha will now take on English boxer Alice Pumphrey in the final whereas Parthavi will face the Dutch boxer Aaliyah Hoppema at the summit clash on November 2.
Mixed day for the men
In men’s boxing, India had a mixed day as only two of the six boxers who were in action at the semifinals, registered a victory on Wednesday.
Rahul Kundu (75 Kg) was the first boxer to book his place in the final after defeating Linkyn Macmillan of Australia. He will now face the home favorite Joseph Awjnongya in the final on November 1st.
Hemant Sangwan (90 Kg) followed his compatriot and progressed to the final with a win over South Korean boxer Sangin Park.
He will also take on the US boxer Rishon Sims in the final on 2nd November.
On the other hand, Rishi Singh (50 Kg), Krrish Pal (55 Kg), Sumit (70 Kg), and Aryan (85 Kg) ended their journey at this tournament with a bronze medal after losing their respective semifinal bouts.
