UAE announced to leave oil producing organization OPEC, Saudi Arabia got a big blow

New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made a big announcement of withdrawing from OPEC and OPEC+, the organization of oil producing countries. UAE will officially leave the membership of these two organizations from 1 May 2026.

Energy Minister gave statement

UAE Energy Minister said that this decision has been taken after a long review of energy sector, petroleum and strategic policies. He said that the world will need more energy in the future, so the UAE has decided to pursue its energy policy independently.

The minister also said that this decision has been taken in view of the current obstacles on the Strait of Hormuz and the instability of the oil market, so that there is no sudden impact on the market.

Big blow to Saudi Arabia

UAE’s exit from OPEC is being considered a big blow for Saudi Arabia. UAE has been an important member of OPEC for a long time. Its exit can weaken the unity and strength of the entire organization. Amidst the Iran war and the uncertain situation in the Strait of Hormuz, this decision is openly exposing OPEC’s internal differences.

Big victory for Trump?

Many analysts are considering this decision of UAE as a major diplomatic victory for US President Donald Trump. Trump has been accusing OPEC for a long time that this organization is exploiting the world by increasing oil prices. UAE is a close ally of America.

In recent times, UAE has also criticized other Arab countries. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE President, said that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries adopted a very weak stance at the political and military level during the Iranian attacks.

Fuel crisis and increased concern

Currently, global oil supply is already affected due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. In such a situation, leaving OPEC of a big oil producing country like UAE can increase more uncertainty in the international oil market. This is likely to put additional pressure on the prices of petrol and diesel. This step of UAE can prove to be a major change in global energy politics.
