UAE Update: Sheikh Mohammed launches new program, new tunnel to be built in Sharjah and Indian expatriate wins 20 lakh dirhams

Many big news have come out from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). While Sheikh Mohammed has launched a new program for the future generation, work is underway on major road projects in Sharjah and Al Ain. Also, an Indian expat has got lucky and has won a grand prize of 20 lakh dirhams.

Sheikh Mohammed’s new initiative and UAE’s ranking

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched a new program called ‘Dubai-it’ on 17 June 2026. The aim of this program is to teach the coming generation the principles of Dubai’s way of working and development. He said that Dubai aims to move forward with speed, accuracy and excellent results.

Additionally, on June 18, 2026, Sheikh Mohammed revealed that the UAE ranked fifth in the world in the Global Competitiveness Report 2026. The UAE has ranked first in the world in economic performance and has also led in 21 indicators such as lack of bureaucracy. The government has also approved the creation of an Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority, which will manage digital government and data across the country.

Road projects in Sharjah and Al Ain

A major transport project worth 750 million dirhams has started in Sharjah. A new tunnel and five bridges will be built in it, which will make it easier to go to Dubai and reduce the problem of traffic jams. On the orders of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, this tunnel will be built under Al Tawaun Roundabout. This route will go directly towards Al Nahda Bridge and Dubai and may open by November 2026.

At the same time, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has started the work of a road project worth 291.11 million dirhams in Al Ain. This road will connect Al Saruj area to Al Ain Industrial Area. The project also includes a 3.2 kilometer road, cycle track, pedestrian walkway and a short tunnel. This work is expected to be completed by June 2027.

Shajeer Venga, a 34-year-old Indian expatriate living in Abu Dhabi, has won Dh20 lakh in the June 2026 draw of Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB)’s ‘Millionaire’ campaign. Shajeer had opened his savings account using the bank’s digital app and within two months he won this big prize. Shajeer will now invest this money and is preparing to bring his family from India to UAE.

Slight change has been seen in gold prices in Dubai. On June 17, 2026, the price of 24 carat gold was 522.25 dirhams per gram, which fell to 519.75 dirhams per gram on June 18. This fluctuation is being seen in gold prices due to global tension and economic uncertainty.
