Now no website, UAN activation will be done through UMANG app, face authentication required
Business Desk – If you use EPF account, then this update is useful for you. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made a major change in the process related to Universal Account Number (UAN). Now the facility of UAN activation and generation of new UAN will not be available on the official website of EPFO. Both these services have been shifted to UMANG app.
Along with this, Aadhaar based Face Authentication has also been made mandatory to increase security. EPFO says that after database consolidation and software upgrade, this decision has been taken to make online services more secure and faster.
How to activate UAN from UMANG app
To activate UAN, first download the UMANG app and log in. After this select ‘UAN Services Through Face Auth’ option and click on ‘UAN Allotment and Activation’. Here enter your UAN number, Aadhaar number and mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
After ticking the consent box, click on ‘Send OTP’. After OTP is verified, complete the face authentication process. If all the information is correct, your UAN will be activated.
How to check whether UAN is already active or not?
If you want to find out whether your UAN is already activated or not, go to the ‘UAN Allotment and Activation’ option under ‘UAN Services Through Face Auth’ in the UMANG app. After entering UAN, Aadhaar number and mobile number here, verify OTP. If your UAN is already activated, the message ‘The UAN entered is already activated’ will appear on the screen.
This year also 8.25% interest will be available on EPF
There is another good news for EPF account holders. The Finance Ministry has approved 8.25% interest rate on EPF deposits for the financial year 2025-26. For the third consecutive year, employees will get interest at the same rate. This interest will be deposited directly into the EPF account.
How much money can be withdrawn from PF?
According to EPFO rules, it is necessary to maintain at least 25% balance in the account for partial withdrawal during employment. That means you can withdraw only up to a maximum of 75% of your total EPF balance. The facility of full settlement is available only in case of leaving the job or in special circumstances prescribed in the EPFO rules.
For example, if you have Rs 2 lakh deposited in your EPF account including employee and company contributions, then you can withdraw a maximum of Rs 1.50 lakh under partial withdrawal. The remaining Rs 50 thousand will remain in the account.
