Udhampur Bus Accident: A terrible bus accident in Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, 20 people died on the spot as the bus fell into a deep gorge.

On Monday (April 20) morning hours of Jammu and Kashmir 20 people were killed and 30 injured when a bus plunged into a deep ravine in Udhampur district. In this regard, officials said that around 10 am, the bus met with an accident on a dangerous curve on the hilly road in Ram Nagar area. After this accident, the rescue operation is now underway and many people have been admitted to the hospital from the incident site and their condition is said to be critical.

The accident took place when the bus was going to Udhampur from a remote village. Rescue operations were started immediately after the accident and emergency teams have reached the spot. A massive rescue operation is underway, with teams of army, police and local residents working to save the injured. Several passengers have been admitted to nearby hospitals. It is reported that the condition of many of them is critical. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he has interacted with the district authorities and assured that all possible help is being provided. Arrangements have been made to airlift the seriously injured.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, “I just spoke to Udhampur DC Minga Sherpa. I came to know about a ghastly road accident that took place an hour ago in Kanot village. The accident took place with a public transport bus from Ramnagar to Udhampur.”

Singh added, “Rescue operations have been started immediately. Heavy loss of life and property is likely. All-out assistance is being provided. Injured will be taken to hospital for medical treatment. Arrangements are being made for airlift of seriously injured.”

Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed deep condolences over the horrific bus accident that left 20 people dead and over 20 injured.

The Prime Minister condoled with the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also announced that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each will be given to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over the accident and directed the administration to speed up relief and rescue operations and provide all possible assistance to the affected people.
