UIDAI’s special campaign for biometric update in Aadhaar, 1.2 crore children benefited
New Delhi, March 3. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a special campaign across the country to promote Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU). Services were provided in more than 103,000 schools under this campaign, helping approximately 1.2 crore (12 million) school children to complete MBU on Aadhaar in their school premises.
MBU completed in school premises only
The regional and state offices of UIDAI are running this campaign in mission mode in collaboration with the education departments of states and union territories, district administrations and schools. Under this initiative, children were given the facility of biometric update in a simple and convenient manner in the school itself.
Technical integration with UDISE+
UIDAI launches mission mode MBU campaign for school children in September, 2025. The campaign started after successful technical integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application of the Department of School Education and Literacy. Integration with UDISE+ provided accurate information about the MBU status of children in schools. This made it possible to identify those children whose biometric update was pending. On the basis of this, the process was completed by organizing special camps in schools.
More than 4000 machines deployed
At least 4000 machines are being used across the country to effectively implement the campaign. UIDAI has also started the process of increasing the number of machines to further accelerate the pace of the campaign.
Help in competitive exams and schemes
Keeping the biometric information updated in the Aadhaar card of children helps them in availing various government schemes, scholarships and other benefits. Additionally, the process of registration and certification for competitive and university exams like NEET, JEE and CUET is also easier. UIDAI has been appealing to parents to get their children’s MBU done on time.
Free facility for age group 7-15 years
The MBU campaign has been going on in mission mode for the last six months. UIDAI has made MBU in Aadhaar free for children in the age group of 7-15 years for a period of one year starting from October 1, 2025. Apart from the camps organized in schools, children can also complete their MBU by visiting any Aadhaar Enrollment Center or Aadhaar Seva Kendra across the country.
