Opposition increased within the party
After the Labor Party’s poor performance in local elections and by-elections, questions are being raised about Starmer’s leadership abilities. According to reports, about one-fourth of the party’s MPs have openly stood against him. Many MPs believe that it is necessary to give a new face to the party before the next general elections. On the other hand, Starmer has made it clear that if there is a challenge regarding leadership, he will face it and is not going to back down easily.
Andy Burnham is the strongest contender
Former Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham recently returned to Parliament after winning the Makerfield by-election. After this victory, he is being seen as the next leader of the Labor Party and a possible Prime Minister. Although Burnham has not yet formally challenged Starmer, her supporters claim the party needs new leadership. If Starmer resigns, the leadership race in the Labor Party could intensify.
