ULFA made a big blast just before the elections! RPG attack on Assam Police commando, 4 soldiers injured
Assam: Militants launched a major attack in Tinsukia district of Assam in the early hours of Sunday. Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG) were fired at the commando camp of Assam Police. Four commando soldiers were injured in this attack. The suspected attackers are said to be associated with the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).
Firing lasted for 20 minutes
The attack took place at around 2 o’clock on the Police Commando Battalion camp located in the 10 mile area of Jagun area. According to eyewitnesses and officials, the attackers fired 4 to 5 RPG shells. Most of these exploded inside the camp, causing loud sounds of explosions. After this there was firing from both sides for about 20 minutes. The attackers attacked secretly and took advantage of the darkness and ran away.
This camp is in a sensitive area near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. Security sources said that the attack created chaos in the camp and the injured soldiers were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. The condition of three soldiers is said to be critical, but detailed information is not yet available.
The attack happened just before the assembly elections
After the incident, the team led by Tinsukia Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha reached the spot. Security has been increased in the entire district and Upper Assam. High alert continues on interstate borders. Security forces have started a massive search operation so that the attackers can be caught soon.
This attack took place just before the 2026 assembly elections. Officials believe that its objective may be to spoil the election environment and spread instability.
A similar attack took place last year also
It is noteworthy that in October last year, there was a grenade attack on the army camp in Kakopathar, Tinsukia. Three soldiers were injured in that. Then ULFA-I took responsibility. The attackers opened fire from the moving vehicle at midnight and fled.
Now looking at this latest attack, there is suspicion that the same organization may be behind it. Officials said that all necessary steps are being taken to secure the area. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be revealed soon.
