UN Debate Sparks Tension: Why India’s UN speech against Pakistan is making headlines worldwide today?

New York: India delivered a strong message to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), warning that Islamabad must be prepared to face consequences for allegedly supporting cross-border terrorism. The statement was made during a UNSC Open Debate focused on upholding the UN Charter and strengthening the global multilateral system.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, strongly criticized Pakistan’s alleged role in fostering extremist networks and enabling terrorism directed against India.

“Pakistan Will Face Consequences,” Says India

Addressing the high-level forum in New York, Ambassador Harish stated that Pakistan has repeatedly supported extremist elements and promoted cross-border terror activities. He asserted that India reserves the sovereign right to defend itself against such threats.

He further remarked that Pakistan’s actions undermine international peace and stability, adding that “Pakistan will have to accept that there are consequences to its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.”

Harish also referred to Pakistan’s long-standing strategy of “bleeding India by a thousand cuts,” saying it exposes contradictions in Islamabad’s claims of supporting the UN Charter. He accused Pakistan of repeatedly violating principles of sovereignty and peaceful coexistence through aggression and terror-related activities.

India Reaffirms Stand on Jammu and Kashmir

India also rejected recent references to Jammu and Kashmir made in a joint statement by China and Pakistan. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are and will remain integral and inalienable parts of India.

He added that no external country has any authority to comment on India’s internal matters. India also opposed any attempt to legitimize what it calls illegal occupation linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), stating that its position has been consistently conveyed to both countries.

India Highlights Pakistan’s Historical Role in Conflict

Ambassador Harish also pointed out that since independence, India has faced cross-border aggression from Pakistan, including attempts to capture territories that had legally acceded to India.

He reiterated India’s position that Pakistan must permanently end its alleged support for terrorism and stop using extremist groups as tools of state policy.
