Comedian and video producer Nigel Ng, popularly known as Uncle Roger, recently announced a price reduction for the fried rice dish at his restaurants in Malaysia at RM16 (US$3.55), down from RM18.

In mid-December, Ng opened two new outlets, one at MyTown Shopping Center in Kuala Lumpur and another at Selangor’s IPC Shopping Center. These openings followed the launch of his first restaurant at Pavilion Shopping Complex in September, The Straits Times reported.

“People complained that RM18 at the Pavilion outlet was too expensive for a plate of fried rice, though it’s a reasonable price for that location,” Ng said in a recent interview, as reported by Channel News Asia.

Earlier, many diners criticized the long waiting times and high prices at the Pavilion outlet. A Hong Kong YouTuber even labeled it her “worst dining experience in Malaysia” and vowed never to return.

In response to the public complaints, Ng took decisive action to address the concerns.

In an Instagram reel posted on Dec. 17, Ng wrote: “Uncle Roger want to confirm all fry rice and noodle now RM16 at all outlets. Fuiyoh!”

He added, however, that “more expensive items” will soon be added to the menu, so “nieces and nephews you can buy that and flex your money in front of your girlfriend or boyfriend.”

Through his character, Uncle Roger, a stereotypical middle-aged Asian uncle known for critiquing people’s cooking techniques, he often contrasts authentic Asian culinary methods with their Western adaptations in his videos.

He has attracted 9.85 million YouTube subscribers.
