Under the leadership of Mann government, Punjab started career guidance program with IIT Madras, more than 5,000 teachers will get training.

Punjab : In an important step, the Punjab State Education Department has started a state-level career guidance program in collaboration with IIT Madras promoter. This initiative is designed with the aim of helping students choose the right career option and prepare them for the future. Under this program, a strong infrastructure will be developed to make every teacher a trained career mentor, so that they can play an effective role in guiding the students.

Training of more than 5,000 teachers ensured
Punjab Education Minister Mr. Harjot Singh Bains said that more than 5,000 teachers will be trained under this program. This training will prepare teachers to give accurate information to students about career options, identify their abilities and provide personalized guidance. The minister also clarified that the training will include basic career counselling, skills for classroom sessions and techniques for one-to-one guidance to the teachers.

Support and digital resources by IIT Madras
IIT Madras will provide continuous academic support and digital resources to the promoter teachers. During the training, teachers will gain exposure to top 100 high-demand careers, structured assessment tools and emerging career trends at national and global levels. Through this initiative, teachers will be enabled to act as effective career counselors in their schools.

Benefits to students from rural and backward areas
Punjab School Education Board Chairman Dr. Amarpal Singh said that this program will be especially beneficial for the students of rural and backward areas. This will give them easy access to high-quality career guidance, which was previously limited mainly to private counselors. Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that trained teachers will enable students to choose the right career option based on their abilities and explore new age professions.

Goals and long-term effects
Mr. Srikanth, Chief Knowledge Officer, IIT Madras promoter, said the objective of this initiative is clear: to save every child of Punjab from choosing a career based on confusion or incomplete information. This program will create a structured career guidance environment in the state, where teachers will serve as the backbone of this framework. Over the next few months, thousands of teachers will gain new skills, confidence and the ability to shape the future of millions of children.
