UNESCO has now declared Diwali as world heritage, PM Modi said – ‘Diwali is the soul of our civilization’

New Delhi, 10 December. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has now declared Diwali as an Intangible World Heritage. UNESCO on Wednesday released the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It also features cultural symbols from several countries, including Ghana, Georgia, Congo, Ethiopia and Egypt.

Special Diwali celebration will be held today

This decision of UNESCO has come at a time when Delhi is hosting the 20th meeting of UNESCO’s Inter-Governmental Committee for Intangible Heritage. This meeting, which started from December 8, will continue till December 13. Keeping this occasion in mind, the Central Government has decided to hold a special Diwali celebration today (10 December), so that India’s cultural identity can be presented in a strong way before the world.

Meanwhile, PM Modi expressed happiness over Diwali being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and while congratulating on X, wrote, ‘People of India and all over the world are thrilled. For us, Diwali is related to culture and nature. This is the soul of our civilization. It is a symbol of knowledge and religion. The inclusion of Diwali in the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List will further increase the global popularity of this festival. May the ideals of Lord Shri Ram guide us eternally.

It is noteworthy that this list of UNESCO includes such cultural and traditional things of the world, which cannot be touched, but can be experienced. It is also called intangible world heritage. Its objective is that these cultural heritages remain safe and reach the coming generations. It is noteworthy that 15 heritage sites of India are already included in the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage list. This includes Durga Puja, Kumbh Mela, Vedic mantra chanting, Ramlila and Chhau dance etc.

Kapil Mishra said – all government buildings will be decorated

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra said that the Delhi government will celebrate Diwali separately on December 10. All government buildings will be decorated, special programs will be held at Dilli Haat and lamps will be lit at the Red Fort. Delhi Secretariat was decorated with tricolor lights on Tuesday night.

The government aims to present Diwali as a global message taking ‘from darkness to light’, so that India’s claim in the UNESCO list can be further strengthened. The Delhi government has also appealed to the people to participate in the celebrations across the city and celebrate this historic moment together.

Red Fort will be the main venue of Diwali

The main venue of the program will be the Red Fort. Here foreign guests and senior officials of the country will witness the lamp lighting ceremony, cultural programs and traditional art demonstrations. The responsibility of decorating the capital has been given to the Delhi government. Lights will be installed throughout the city, decorations will be done, lamps will be lit and cultural programs will be organized at different places.
