Unheard story of shooting of Omkara, Saif Ali Khan told why he rejected Vishal Bhardwaj’s bold scene

New Delhi . Vishal Bhardwaj’s film Omkara is counted among the best films of Hindi cinema. In this film, Saif Ali Khan won the hearts of both the audience and critics by playing the character of Langra Tyagi. It has now been 20 years since the film’s release and on this occasion, Saif has shared an incident during the shooting which caught everyone’s attention.

Saif Ali Khan told in an interview that director Vishal Bhardwaj had a very different idea regarding an important scene of the film. There was a long dialogue in that scene which had to be filmed in front of the mirror. Vishal wanted the entire scene to be shot without clothes so that the character’s mental state and insecurities could be shown more effectively.

Saif told that he found this suggestion of the director interesting but due to the large number of people present on the set, he was not feeling comfortable. In such a situation, he put an interesting condition in front of Vishal Bhardwaj. Saif said that if the director also directs him without clothes then he is ready to do this scene. On this Vishal Bhardwaj refused with a smile and the matter ended there.

However, now when Saif recalls that moment, he feels that perhaps he should have done that scene. According to him, that scene could have been filmed from behind and this would have increased both the seriousness and impact of the character. He said that in today’s time, new types of experiments are being done in films and if such an offer had been received today, perhaps he would have accepted it.

Saif also told that just before the shooting started, Vishal Bhardwaj made a big change in that entire scene. While earlier a long dialogue was kept, later the director decided that there would be no dialogue in this scene. Instead, Saif had to stand in front of the mirror and break the glass with a heavy metal object. During this, blood was to be shown flowing from his hands so that the anger and breakdown within the character could reach the audience without words.

  • According to Saif, the specialty of Vishal Bhardwaj is that he keeps working on his scenes till the last moment and if he gets a better idea, he does not hesitate to make changes in the entire script. This is why Omkara is still remembered for its strong direction, excellent acting and impressive scenes.

Omkara not only gave a new identity to Saif Ali Khan’s acting career but also proved that playing challenging characters brings out the talent of the actor further. This story, which came to light 20 years after the film, shows that behind every memorable scene seen on screen, there are many interesting stories hidden.
