Uniform Civil Code approved in Uttarakhand, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami fulfilled a big election promise

Dehradun. Dhami Cabinet of Uttarakhand has approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Manual on Monday. The manual has already been thoroughly scrutinized and examined by the Legislative Department. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while talking to the media, said that the promises made in the 2022 elections have been kept. He said that we had promised the people of Uttarakhand that we will bring UCC bill as soon as our government is formed. We fulfilled this promise. The Draft Committee prepared its draft, it was passed in the Assembly, then after the approval of the President, it became a law.

Now the training process is almost complete. After analyzing all the aspects, we will soon announce the dates for its implementation. The UCC bill in Uttarakhand was first introduced in the special assembly session on February 6. On February 7, it was passed with an overwhelming majority. After this, on March 13, President Draupadi Murmu signed it and gave it the status of law. Now Uttarakhand is on its way to becoming the first state in the country where UCC will be implemented.

Objective of implementing UCC in Uttarakhand

The purpose of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is to apply uniform personal law to all citizens, irrespective of their religion, caste, or gender. It covers topics such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance and division of property.
