Union Budget 2026: Stock market is going to create history, this time the market will open on Sunday also, know the timing and reason for opening on Sunday.

Union Budget 2026: Usually the stock market remains closed on Saturday and Sunday, but this time due to a special reason BSE and NSE will remain open on Sunday, 1st February. The reason for this is that the country’s biggest economic program i.e. the Union Budget will be presented on this day.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on 1 February. The budget has a direct impact on the stock market. Keeping this in view, the stock exchanges have decided to provide trading facilities to investors on that day.

Both BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) and NSE (National Stock Exchange) have issued separate circulars informing that live trading session will be organized on the budget day.

This means that investors will be able to buy and sell shares on Sunday also like a normal trading day. Trading will be open not only in the equity segment but also in the F&O (Futures and Options) and commodity derivatives segments.

What will be the trading timings?

Trading timings will remain the same as normal days.

  • Pre-Open Session: 9:00 am to 9:08 am
  • Normal Trading Session: 9:15 am to 3:30 pm

What is the benefit of opening the market on Budget day?

During the announcement of the budget, sharp fluctuations are seen in the stock market due to announcements related to taxes, government expenditure, subsidies, infrastructure, banking and middle class. With the market open, investors will not have to wait for the next day and will be able to buy or sell shares immediately.

There will be no T+0 settlement on 1st February

BSE has made it clear in its circular that T+0 settlement session and auction session related to settlement default will not be conducted on Sunday, February 1, 2026. That means only trading facilities will be available on that day.

Special day for the market as well as the Parliament

This day will be special not only for the stock market but also for the Parliament. This will be the first time since 2000 that the Union Budget will be presented in Parliament on Sunday. However, the budget had already been presented on Saturday.

In the year 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget on Saturday. At the same time, on 28 February 2015, the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had also presented the Union Budget on Saturday itself.
