He said that due to the joint efforts of the Central and State Governments, violence in Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal-affected areas and North-Eastern states has been controlled to a great extent in the last 10 years.

Shah told representatives of state police forces at the conference, most of whom are DGP rank officers, to enforce the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act wherever necessary.

The Home Minister said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the counter-terrorism investigation agency of the Central Government, uses UAPA in all terror cases and as a result, out of 632 cases registered by it so far, charge sheets have been filed in 498 cases and There has been conviction in about 95 percent of the cases.

The two-day counter-terrorism conference that began here on Thursday is expected to further enhance coordination among agencies to strengthen India's security apparatus.
