Unique disease spread in Pune, 67 patients in the grip of GBS, know what is the symptoms
Guillain-Barre Syndrome: A case of outbreak of a rare disease called Guilan-Baire syndrome (GBS) has come to light in Pune city of Maharashtra. So far, 67 cases of this disease have been confirmed, due to which there is an atmosphere of concern among the local residents. After getting information about this new disease, the Health Department of the Government of Maharashtra has formed a special team and started investigation. Vaishali Jadhav, Assistant Health Officer of Pune Municipal Corporation, said in this regard that 67 patients have been treated till January 23 and four investigation teams have been formed.
Guilan-Baire syndrome (GBS) is a rare neurological disorder, in which the body's immune system attacks nerves. Due to this, there is weakness, numbness, tingling or difficulty in walking in the muscles of the body. Paralysis or respiratory problems may arise in some severe cases. Most cases of this disease have been found in the Sinhagad road area of Pune, and special survey is being done by the Health Department in this area.
How does Guilan-Baire syndrome spread?
Cases of Guilan-Baire syndrome are often revealed after infections related to viruses or bacteria. Some patients had complained about diarrhea or respiratory problems before the arrival of this disease. The disease affects 0.1-2 people out of one lakh people per year. In addition, health officials are suspected of the association of the disease with 'Campillobacter' infection, which spreads through contaminated water or food.
Strict monitoring and precautions on outbreak
Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation have strictly strictly made security measures in the city. People are being made aware of GBS symptoms and safety measures by health officials. The Pune Neurological Society has also issued an alert regarding the disease and appealed to the people to take precautions. He has advised that people should boil water before eating and drink, eat clean food and avoid any kind of rumors.
Symptoms and treatment of GBS
Symptoms of Guilan-Baire syndrome may cause weakness, numbness, tingling, difficulty in walking and breathing in severe cases. If a person sees symptoms of infection like diarrhea, fever, nausea or vomiting with these symptoms, it is necessary to seek medical advice immediately. In severe cases, ICU may be required to be admitted and ventilative assistance may be required.
Take precautions
The Health Department has advised to adopt the following precautions:
Boil water and drink bottled water.
Avoid raw or half -baked meat, eggs and seafood.
Wash and eat vegetables and fruits.
Wash hands with soap before eating and after using the toilet.
Avoid any kind of rumors and be conscious.
