Thinking did not change even after living abroad! Indians living in UK do not want daughters, are getting foeticide done; Big revelation in the report
It is said that by going abroad the thinking changes, opportunities increase and the outlook becomes modern. But a shocking report has completely shaken this notion. Britain Even today, the same old mentality regarding daughters is still rooted in many families of Indian origin settled in India. No matter how much society progresses, technology and progress reach new heights, the attitude of considering daughters as inferior to boys still seems to be deeply ingrained in the thinking of some families. The unusual figures revealed in the UK’s official birth data have made it clear that the son-dominated mentality is still as strong even in non-resident Indian families.

The figures recorded in the report show that despite the modern environment and foreign laws, some families of Indian origin have not been able to get out of cultural pressure, social expectations and the idea of running a dynasty. Despite so much progress, discrimination between sons and daughters continues and indications of targeting of girl fetuses are raising concerns.
what does the report say
The UK’s Office for Health Improvement and Disparities examined birth records from 2017 to 2021. In this investigation, a surprising fact related to families of Indian origin came to light. In households where there were already two or more children, the proportion of boys was found to be significantly higher in the third or subsequent children. For every 100 girls, about 113 boys were born, whereas normally this ratio is considered to be between 102 to 106. This data of about 15,401 births shows that this difference is not just a coincidence. During the same period, a total of 36 lakh children were born in Britain and the average ratio there was 105.4 boys per 100 girls, which is completely within the normal range. In such a situation, this unequal balance seen in families of Indian origin is even more clearly visible.
There may be 400 cases in England
According to the report, this difference seen in the birth figures indicates that some families may be taking illegal steps like abortion in case of birth of a girl child. Investigators estimate that unborn girls may have been deliberately targeted in about 400 cases in England and Wales over the past five years.
cultural pressure is the reason
The deep impact of old social thinking is still visible in many countries of South Asia. Considering the son as the heir of the family, expectations of taking care of the elders and social pressure – all these factors together influence people’s thinking. These beliefs also seem to be affecting some Indian families living abroad. About 13,843 abortions performed by women of Indian origin between 2017 and 2021 are also being linked to this issue. This figure shows that the old thinking regarding the difference between son and daughter still persists in many families.
Government’s strict warning
A Health Department official has clearly said that abortion is completely illegal in England and Wales just on the basis of sex of the child. He says that if someone gets an abortion just because the child is a girl, then it will be considered a crime under the law. It is a serious crime for any doctor to do this. The government has appealed to everyone that if anyone gets information about such illegal activities, then immediately inform the police.
This report is not only an analysis of data, but it also questions old social thinking and customs, which still need to be changed. This shows that it is necessary to change the unequal thinking between daughters and sons so that equality is maintained in the society.
