Unnao rape case: Rahul Gandhi’s sharp attack on bail to Kuldeep Sengar, said – unjust treatment of the victim is sad

New Delhi. Former Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi expressed surprise over the grant of bail to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in the Unnao gangrape case and the treatment meted out to the victim when she protested and said that instead of giving justice, injustice is being done to her.

Rahul Gandhi, in a post on social media X on Wednesday, questioned why injustice is being done to the rape victim who is raising her voice for justice. He said that in a democracy everyone has the right to protest and if the police behaves like this with the protestor then it is injustice. He questioned whether such treatment of a gangrape victim was appropriate. Is her ‘mistake’ that she is daring to raise her voice for justice? It is extremely disappointing and shameful for his culprit (a former BJP MLA) to get bail – especially when the victim is being repeatedly harassed, and is living in fear. Bail to rapists and treating victims like criminals – what kind of justice is this?

Rahul Gandhi said, “We are not only a dead economy, but with such inhuman incidents, we are also becoming a dead society. In a democracy, raising the voice of dissent is a right and suppressing it is a crime. The victim should get respect, safety and justice – not helplessness, fear and injustice.”

It is noteworthy that the Delhi High Court has approved the bail of former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the Unnao rape case. The victim alleges that this criminal got her uncle and her father murdered and then raped her sister and sent her uncle to jail by implicating her in a false case.
