In an interview in 1973, Anju said that ‘Rajesh was very insecure and possessive about me, and he felt that he could control my life. He had become very suspicious, so much so that he would call my house every once in a while and ask about me. He just wanted me to stay at home all the time and wait for him’ He is a very conservative man, yet he is always attracted towards ultra-modern women. There was always confusion in our relationship. If I wore a skirt he would immediately say, ‘Why don’t you wear a saree?’ If I wore a saree, he would scrunch up his nose and say, ‘Why are you trying to look like an Indian woman?’

However, time passed and due to mutual differences, Rajesh Khanna and Anju broke up. After breakup with Anju, Rajesh Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in 1973. Who was half his age. According to media reports, Rajesh Khanna, who is going to marry Dimple, has taken out his wedding procession in front of Anju Mahendru’s house to tease her. Not only this, they also danced for half an hour in front of his house. Rajesh Khanna died on 18 July 2012 while fighting cancer, and Anju Mahendru was with him as a friend till his last moments.
