UP Assembly Elections 2027: SP-BJP’s fight on Kurmi vote bank.

Preparations for the 2027 assembly elections have started in Uttar Pradesh and this time the political battle is going to be very interesting. Both Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are working on their strategy. Especially the eyes of both the parties are fixed on the Kurmi vote bank.

UP Assembly Election 2027: The political chessboard of 2027 has been laid between Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, where a direct contest is now visible on the Kurmi vote bank between the PDA formula and caste equations. BJP has put forward Pankaj Choudhary to woo the Kurmi community and has adopted the strategy of strengthening its hold among the Kurmi voters by making him the state president.

At the same time, Samajwadi Party is also not lagging behind and has tried to strengthen its hold in the Kurmi community by giving big responsibility to SP MP from Basti Ram Prakash Chaudhary and Rakesh Verma, son of former minister Beni Prasad Verma.

BJP’s strategy: Kurmi votes through Pankaj Chaudhary

BJP has made Pankaj Chaudhary the state president to help the Kurmi community. The objective of the party is clear – to make a dent in the votes of the Kurmi community and strengthen its hold in the power equation. The appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary indicates that the BJP is trying to increase its strength keeping in mind the Kurmi vote.

BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi says that the party is not limited to any one caste or region. It works on the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and every leader represents the entire state and society.

SP also cut BJP’s card

While BJP is putting Pankaj Chaudhary ahead, Samajwadi Party is also not lagging behind. SP has adopted the strategy of strengthening its hold in the Kurmi community by giving big responsibilities to Basti MP Ramprakash Chaudhary and Rakesh Verma, son of former minister Beni Prasad Verma. SP spokesperson Rakesh Ahir says that Samajwadi Party has leaders in all four belts of Kurmi community. The party has such a bouquet of castes, which will prove to be decisive in the elections.

Caste equations will become decisive

SP President Akhilesh Yadav has already indicated that he will adopt the caste based bouquet formula in the elections. Inderjit Saroj from Dalit community, Abhishek Mishra and Mata Prasad Pandey from Brahmin community, Rajeev Rai and Jairam Pandey from Bhumihar community and other leaders from OBC category have been put forward.
SP had achieved success in the elections of 2022 and 2024 by adopting this formula. Now in 2027 also caste mathematics is going to play a decisive role.

Experts believe that BJP has definitely put forward Pankaj Choudhary, but the Kurmi community is not connected to just one leader. There are four different belts of Kurmis and each belt has a different leader. In such a situation, due to SP having strong leadership in every belt, currently SP seems to have the upper hand in Kurmi politics.
