UP BJP’s new team ready, approved after marathon meetings in Delhi; Major changes decided from General Ministers to regional presidents

Lucknow, Read: After a long wait, the picture of major organizational changes in the Uttar Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party is almost clear. After marathon meetings held with the top leadership in Delhi, a final consensus has been reached on the names of the state executive and regional presidents. According to party sources, the new state team can be announced around World Yoga Day, June 21.

The biggest change will be seen at the level of General Ministers. There are preparations to have six general secretaries in the state organization instead of seven. There is talk of five new faces getting a chance, whereas among the current Chief Ministers, only one leader seems to be successful in saving his post. According to sources, the departure of about 10 faces out of 18 state vice presidents is considered certain.

Many of the 16 state ministers can be promoted and given new responsibilities. A strategy has been worked out to bring freshness to the organization by giving new roles to long standing leaders in the party organisation.

State President Pankaj Chaudhary and State General Secretary (Organization) Dharampal Singh discussed the new organizational structure in several rounds of meetings with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, central leaders and top leadership of the organization over the last several months. The process took longer than expected due to churning over ethnic and regional balance.

This time the BJP organization seems to be in favor of changing all the six regional presidents and giving a chance to new faces. In the West, Braj and Kanpur-Bundelkhand regions, a strategy has been made to rework the caste equations, while in the Awadh, Gorakhpur and Kashi regions, new faces can be brought forward while maintaining social balance. Party sources say that keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections and organization expansion, priority is being given to young, active and leaders with regional influence. There is also emphasis on increasing women’s participation. There were 11 women in the last 45-member state executive, this time this number may increase further.

Focus on caste equation for regional presidents

In the western region, there is talk of Gurjar or Vaishya leadership instead of Kshatriya face. A new face can come forward from Lodh community in Braj region. There is a possibility of Kshatriya leadership getting a chance in Kanpur-Bundelkhand. In Awadh and Kashi regions, the emphasis is on striking a balance between Brahmins and other OBC classes, whereas in Gorakhpur region, new faces are being sought from the Bhumihar community.

The exercise of forming the organization was going on for six months.

The process of formation of the state organization was going on since December last year. After the election of the state president, the formation of the new team was discussed several times, but it took time to reach a consensus on issues like caste balance, regional representation and organization-government coordination. There is talk of finalizing the list after recent meetings held in Delhi.
