UP by-election: Election Commission, said – the job of the police is not to remove the voter's veil or check the identity card, but to maintain peace and order.

Lucknow : Regarding the by-elections to be held on Wednesday on 9 assembly seats of UP, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Chandrashekhar Election Commission of India has clearly said in the instructions sent to the police officers of the state that voters will not be identified by the UP Police in the by-elections.

The Election Commission has given clear instructions that the job of the police is not to check the identity card, nor to remove the veil or influence any voter in any other way. The job of maintaining peace is to be looked after by the police, all voters should be aware of their rights and vote freely.
