UP Panchayat Elections: Backward Classes Commission will be formed before the elections, government gave an affidavit in the High Court.

UP Panchayat Elections: The Uttar Pradesh Government has informed the Lucknow Bench of the High Court that a dedicated Backward Classes Commission will be formed before the upcoming Panchayat Elections in the state. The bench of Justice Rajan Rai and Justice Awadhesh Chaudhary was hearing the case.

In fact, a petition was filed in the High Court challenging the rights of the existing Backward Classes Commission. The government has now clarified that reservation of seats will be decided on the basis of the report of this dedicated commission. This step has been taken in compliance with the instructions of the Supreme Court, in which it has been made mandatory to have a dedicated commission before the local body elections.

The UP Government has made it clear by filing an affidavit in the High Court that before the Panchayat elections, a dedicated Backward Classes Commission will be formed in the state, on the basis of whose report the process of Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh will be taken forward. At the same time, the State Election Commission has also decided the maximum amount that candidates of different levels of Panchayat elections can spend in the elections.
