UP will spend Rs 717.11 crore on two national irrigation projects, Cabinet approves UP’s stake in dam projects
Lucknow, Read: The cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved Uttar Pradesh’s financial share in two important water projects under construction in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, Lakhwar Multipurpose Project and Renukaji Dam Project. The state government will spend a total amount of more than Rs 717.11 crore in these two projects.
The Cabinet has approved spending Rs 356.07 crore as Uttar Pradesh’s share in the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project being built on the Yamuna river in Dehradun and Tehri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand. Under this project, a 204 meter high dam, 300 MW capacity underground power plant and barrage are being constructed. The project will provide water for irrigation in approximately 33,780 hectares of area in the beneficiary states.
Similarly, Rs 361.04 crore will be spent as Uttar Pradesh’s share in the Renukaji Dam project being built on the Giri river in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. In this project, a 148 meter high dam is being built and 40 MW power generation is also proposed from it.
After the completion of these two national projects, Uttar Pradesh will get a total of 3.721 BCM additional water. This water will be used for irrigation through the Eastern Yamuna Canal and Agra Canal system, which will strengthen the drinking water and irrigation facilities in the state.
