Upcoming MG Majestor 7 Seat Luxury SUV: Variants Explained

MG Motor India recently took wraps off the Majestor- India’s first D+ segment SUV. The company hasn’t revealed the prices yet. Expect these to be out in April and the deliveries will begin in May this year. It will come in two trims- Sharp and Savvy-, and three variants. Both six-seater and seven-seater versions will be available. This article will explain what each variant offer, in detail.

Sharp 4×2

The SUV is available in three variants- Sharp 4×2, Savvy 4×2, and Savvy 4×4. Clearly, 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) is reserved for the Savvy trim alone. Even the entry-level Sharp trim comes well-packaged. Talking of the exterior, it gets LED DRLs, Mozaic Matrix grille, LED projector headlamps, connected tail lamps and a rear fog lamps. This trim ride on 19-inch dual-shade multi-spoke alloy wheels and has indicator lamps integrated into ORVMs. It gets a side stepper with blushed Steel finish, roof rails, dual exhaust tips, and a front guard plate finished in Gunmetal Grey.

Inside, the Sharp trim gets an all-Black colour scheme. It features full leather upholstery, and even has leather layering and soft-touch finish for the dashboard. The trim also comes with a knitted fabric roof liner and has multiple Carbon Fibre inserts on door trims. The steering wheel too, is leather-wrapped and offers tilt and telescopic adjustments.

This variant comes with features like 64-colour ambient lighting, front and rear illuminated scuff plates, 12-way power adjustable driver seat, 8-way powered co-driver seat, sliding, reclining and split-folding functions for the second row (Sharp is a seven seater), three-zone automatic AC with roof-mounted AC vents for second and third rows, powered tailgate with gesture control, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, rain-sensing wipers, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, cruise control, paddle shifters and more.

This variant comes with a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It also comes with i-SMART Connected Features. Mated to this is an 8-speaker audio system. The Sharp trim also offers dual wireless chargers, USB ports (1 Type-C, 3 Type-A), and even two 12V outlets.

Additionally, the Majestor’s Sharp trim comes equipped with three drive modes- Eco, Normal anad Sport and three steering modes. On the safety front, it gets front and rear parking sensors, six airbags, ESP, TCS, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, heated ORVM, and Driver Fatigue warning. There are more features on offer, listing all of which would make this an infinitely long list! Notably, level 2 ADAS is not offered on this variant.

Savvy (4×2 & 4×4)

The Savvy trim can be had in six-seat and seven-seat forms and with 4×2 and 4×4 configurations. In addition to what the ‘Sharp’ offers, it gets features like a large panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, memory function for the driver seat and ORVMs, massage function for the front seats with selectable modes, 220V power outlet that can be accessed from the second row, adaptive cruise control and level 2 ADAS. Also, the humble 8-speaker setup of the Sharp trim is replaced with a 12-speaker JBL Studio audio system on the Savvy trim.

Second-row captain seats can only be had on the two-wheel drive variants. Savvy 4×4 comes with a bench in the middle row.

Powertrain Details

Both trims come powered by a 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine that makes 215hp and 479Nm. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Savvy 4×4 trims feature rugged off-road tech and hardware that makes this SUV trail-ready.

The range-topping 4×4 variants get three differential locks (front, centre and rear), four-wheel drive with low range, Crawl control modes and 10 terrain modes. There’s also the M-Crawl feature on offer. The double wishbone independent front and five-link integral rear suspension setups further enhance the capabilities of this SUV.

All in all, if you want to own the Majestor in all its glory, go for the Savvy 4×4 variant. If you are just looking for a large, roomy, comfortable SUV, you can consider the Sharp trim. We expect the Majestor to be priced in the range of Rs 40-45 lakh, ex-showroom.
