After construction of NH-927, the journey from Barabanki to Bahraich will be completed in 1.25 hours, 1130 meter 6 lane cable will be ready on Ghaghra river.
Lucknow. The Central Government on Wednesday approved the upgrading of the highway connecting Barabanki to Bahraich. It has been declared as the new National Highway NH-927. It is noteworthy that during his stay in Lucknow from 12 to 14 March 2026, it was told by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh that efforts are being made by him to get approval for the upgradation of Barabanki to Bahraich Highway. He said that the Lucknow State Capital Region (SCR) notified by the state government will prove to be a milestone in the progress.

Many important decisions were taken in the Cabinet meeting held on March 18 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Out of these, one decision of the government is very special for two districts of UP. In fact, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the construction of 101.515 km 4-lane access-controlled National Highway-927 from Barabanki to Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh on hybrid annuity mode at a cost of Rs 6969.04 crore.
The central government took many important decisions in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday. The government has approved ‘BHAVYA’ (Bharat Industrial Development Scheme) to promote industrial development. Under this scheme costing Rs 33,660 crore, 100 industrial parks will be developed across the country. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told in the press conference that land, electricity, water and other basic facilities will be made available in advance for the industries in the industrial park to be built under the scheme.
The government believes that this scheme will increase investment in the country and create employment opportunities on a large scale. The cabinet meeting also approved the construction of 4-lane access-controlled National Highway-927 between Barabanki and Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh. About Rs 6,969 crore will be spent on this project.
The work on the project will start from October 2026 and is expected to be completed by October 2028. The total length of this highway is 101.515 km. Is. Its construction cost is Rs 6969.00 crore. The new NH-927 will be completely entry controlled i.e. entry and exit will be allowed only from designated points. After its completion, the travel time from Barabanki to Bahraich will be reduced to 1.25 hours instead of 2.50 hours.
Its specialty is that the main road will have two lanes on both sides i.e. a total of 04 lanes and after that there will be a service road of 2-2 lanes on both sides, which will make the movement of short distance vehicles easier and there will be no hindrance in the travel of long distance vehicles. The most notable in the entire project will be the bridge to be built over the Ghaghra river, which will be 1130 meters long and will have 06 lanes. This bridge will be built on cables based on special type of technology.
What are the benefits of access controlled 4-lane highway?
The proposed upgradation of the Barabanki-Bahraich section of NH-927 in Uttar Pradesh will address the serious road deficiencies such as sharp turns and congestion in the urban areas of Barabanki and Bahraich districts. Designed as an access controlled 4-lane highway, the project will bypass major settlements, increase average passenger speed, reduce travel time by approximately one hour and improve overall road safety, fuel efficiency and vehicle operating costs, thereby promoting regional mobility and socio-economic development.
The project connects major economic, social and logistics centers of Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the Advanced Corridor will promote integration by connecting 3 economic centres, 2 social centers and 12 logistics centres, thereby accelerating the movement of goods and passengers across the region. Upon completion of the project, it will establish an important cross-border trade and transit corridor between India and Nepal through the Nepalgunj border, significantly improving access to the Rupaidiha Land Port. It will also connect remote districts like Bahraich and Shravasti.
Under the Bharat Mala Programme, the work of upgradation of NH-731 from Lucknow to Ghazipur via Sultanpur has been completed by the Government of India in the series of National Highways. The work of upgradation of National Highway No. 732 to 04 lanes from Lucknow to Hardoi-Shahjahanpur and further to 02 lanes till Palia is going to be completed soon. Before this, national highways Lucknow-Kanpur NH-27 and Lucknow-Ayodhya NH-26 have been upgraded. The construction of 104 km 08 lane Outer Ring Road around Lucknow has been completed and traffic is operating. 67 km. The construction of long 6 lane Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, NE-6 is almost complete and traffic movement will start soon. All this infrastructure expansion will speed up transportation and at the same time industrial development and economic progress will gain a faster pace.
