Uproar in Bangladesh: UN breaks silence on murder of Dipu Das, demands for strict investigation

News India Live, Digital Desk: You all know that whatever is happening in the last few days in our neighboring country Bangladesh has troubled everyone. There are reports of violence and vandalism coming from there every day, but what happened recently has attracted the attention of the world’s largest organization ‘United Nations’ (UN). The case pertains to a dispute related to ISKCON and the violence that followed. Controversy deepened over the murder of Dipu Das. Actually, there was an uproar in the whole world when the news came that a person named ‘Dipu Das’ was murdered during the violence in Chittagong. The incident occurred when people were protesting against the arrest of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu. The death of Dipu Das further incited the anger of the people. Now the UN has taken a strict stance on this painful incident. UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Turk has expressed deep concern over this. He says that violence is not the solution to any problem and the way minorities and protesters are being targeted there is wrong. What has the UN demanded? The UN has clearly said that there should be an “independent investigation” into the murder of Dipu Das. Meaning, the investigation should be such that there is no discrimination and the truth comes out. Volker Turk has appealed to the Bangladesh government and its people to maintain restraint. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of religious minorities. Why are there protests? All this uproar started when Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was arrested from Dhaka Airport on charges of treason. His supporters were demanding his release, but the protest soon turned violent. Stones were pelted, tear gas shells were fired and meanwhile Dipu Das lost his life. This incident is not just a death, but it raises a big question on the security of minorities living in Bangladesh. A lot of anger is being seen regarding this matter on social media also. Now it remains to be seen what action the interim government of Bangladesh takes after this UN statement. Everyone wants that peace should prevail and innocent people should not lose their lives. If the situation there does not improve, this crisis may deepen in the coming days.
