Support for Hamas was heavy, Trump administration designated 3 branches of Muslim Brotherhood as ‘terrorist organization’ declared
Lebanon Jordan Egypt Muslim Brotherhood: Making its strategy against terrorism more aggressive, America has taken major action against the Muslim Brotherhood. The US administration, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, has officially declared the three major factions of this organization operating in the Middle East as terrorist organizations. This decision was jointly announced by the US Treasury Department and the State Department on Tuesday.
Under this action, Muslim Brotherhood groups operating in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt have been targeted. American officials say that the activities of these organizations are not only a threat to regional stability, but they are also directly supporting terrorist organizations.
Strictest action against Lebanon group
The US State Department has included the Muslim Brotherhood group operating in Lebanon in the list of ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization’ (FTO). This is considered to be America’s toughest terrorist category. Under this, it will now be a serious criminal offense to provide any kind of financial, logistics or material assistance to this organization by America or American citizens. According to US allegations, the Lebanon-based group played a role in rocket attacks on Israel following the attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. On this basis, it has been considered a direct terrorist threat.
Jordan and Egypt groups also banned
The US Treasury Department has listed Muslim Brotherhood factions operating in Jordan and Egypt as ‘Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organizations’ (SDGT). According to officials, both of these organizations provided active support to Hamas and have been involved in activities that incite violence in the region. Under these sanctions, the assets of these groups will be frozen and any kind of financial transaction with them will be prohibited.
Marco Rubio’s tough message
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that this step is part of a strategy to completely stop the supply of resources to terrorism. He made it clear that America will use all means to eliminate the ability of these organizations to spread violence.
