US Iran Draft MoU Hormuz Strait: Amid months of military tension in West Asia, news of a major diplomatic success is emerging. Iran has claimed that it has a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ (MoU) has been received, which could open the way for resumption of commercial shipping through Hormuz.

What is the ‘Hormuz Agreement’?

According to Iranian state TV, under the proposed framework Strait of Hormuz There are plans to restore commercial maritime traffic through the port as before. However, Iran has set some strict conditions for this. For this agreement to be effective, it will be necessary that US forces withdraw from areas near Iran and the naval blockade imposed by the US is completely lifted.

The new draft proposes that Tehran will manage commercial shipping through this strategic waterway in coordination with Oman. A key feature of this agreement is that it covers only commercial vessels, while military vessels are clearly excluded from the framework. This step has been taken with the aim of ensuring the security of the sea route and preventing any military confrontation in future.

Iranian officials have stated that currently the understanding is entirely informal and has not yet been finalized. Tehran has made clear that it will not implement any commitments without concrete verification of US actions.

If a final agreement is reached between Tehran and Washington within the next 60 days, it united nations security council (UNSC) can be formalized as a binding resolution. This will give international legal recognition to this peace process.
