US-Iran Talks: The meeting between America and Iran in Switzerland postponed, White House and Swiss government confirmed
The important talks between America and Iran to be held in Switzerland have been postponed for the time being. The White House said that Vice President JD Vance will not go to Switzerland because the plans for the meeting were not yet finalized. The Foreign Ministry of Switzerland has also confirmed this news.
Preparation for the meeting and the countries involved
This meeting was to be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland. Along with America and Iran, representatives of Qatar and Pakistan were also going to participate in this conversation. The Foreign Ministry of Switzerland said that they are fully prepared to make these talks successful and preparations are going on there.
Statement from the White House and the Vice President
A White House spokesperson said that Vice President JD Vance’s visit was postponed due to meeting plans not being completed. He said that arranging travel and accommodation for such talks is never easy or straightforward. However, the US team is ready to start technical talks as soon as possible.
Vice President JD Vance said during a press briefing that it is difficult to start negotiations this week. He also said that the effect of the President’s peace plan is visible and 12.5 million barrels of oil have passed through the Strait of Hormuz, which has benefited the American people.
Iran’s stance and regional tensions
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Jataba Khamenei had approved direct talks with America. But Iran’s Tasnim agency reported there was no confirmation yet on his delegation’s visit to Switzerland. It is believed that due to Israel’s continuous attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran may have canceled its team’s flight.
background of the agreement
This entire process started after an agreement (MoU) between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Under this agreement, both the countries had decided to end enmity and hold talks for 60 days on major issues like nuclear programme. After this agreement, America lifted the ban on oil tankers from the Strait of Hormuz, so that trade could run smoothly.
