US-Israel and Iran War: Trump tired of US-Iran war, wants to end the war without opening Hormuz

Washington. American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing administration officials, reported that US President Donald Trump has told his close aides that he is ready to end the military operation against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, which can be resumed at a later time.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump and his allies have estimated in recent days that a campaign to force the opening of the strait would extend the conflict beyond Trump’s stated deadline of four-six weeks.

Trump has reportedly decided that the US should gradually end the current military conflict after achieving its main objectives of weakening Iran’s navy and damaging its missile stockpile, as well as putting diplomatic pressure on Tehran to force it to resume the free flow of trade.

The news quoted officials as saying that if this effort fails, the US will put pressure on its allies in Europe and the Gulf region to come forward to reopen the strait. In a press conference on Monday, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that the President and the Pentagon chief have always given an estimated timeline of four to six weeks for the military operation. “It’s been 30 days today,” he said.

Levitt also hinted that Arab countries may also be asked to share the burden of the ongoing military campaign in Iran. When asked whether countries like Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia should bear the cost of the ongoing military campaign in Iran, she said, “I think this is an issue that the President would be very interested in. I won’t speak to him on this, but it is certainly a consideration and I think he will be able to give you more information about it.”

The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, after which Iran retaliated and the conflict spread throughout the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz is an extremely important strategic route for the world’s energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow sea route connecting the Persian Gulf to the Indian Ocean, which is currently largely closed. Due to this, the movement of hundreds of ships passing daily has almost stopped.
