Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said that the building’s security system has detected a problem related to air quality. After this, lockdown was implemented in the affected areas.

Parnell said that the department is following standard safety protocols, under which people present in the affected area have been instructed to stay safe there. “The Pentagon has advanced security systems in place to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants,” he said. These systems have detected an air quality issue, following which precautionary measures are being taken to assess the severity of the situation. Many floors and corridors were locked down

According to CNN report, several floors and corridors inside the Pentagon have been locked down, while other parts are being evacuated. The report said that the incident came to light due to apprehension related to hazardous substances, following which a special investigation team including HAZMAT team reached the spot and started investigation. The statement issued by the Pentagon said that the investigation may take one to two hours. Additional response teams have also been kept ready to help the people present in the building if needed.

According to reports, parts of the second to fifth floors of corridors 4 to 7 were locked down. During this, policemen were seen wearing special gear equipped with gas masks and chemical protection equipment. However, another report said that the situation probably arose due to a false alarm. Despite this, the security check of the building will be continued as a precaution.
