According to American military officials, more than 17,000 soldiers from both the countries will participate in this military exercise. ‘Balikatan’ The word means ‘shoulder to shoulder’ This reflects the strong military cooperation between the US and the Philippines. The exercises will run from April 20 to May 8 and will be conducted primarily in the northwestern waters of the Philippines, close to the disputed South China Sea.
Global cooperation and ship sinking exercise
This time’s exercise is also important because apart from America and Philippines, Japan, France And Canadian forces are also participating. A major activity during the exercise will be to practice sinking a ship with a missile near the South China Sea.
This is a strong message directly to China, which has been claiming almost the entire South China Sea. Apart from this, the exercise will also include preparation to deal with the challenges of modern warfare, such as drone attacks.
China’s concern and America’s commitment
Let us tell you that this is not the first time, China has strongly opposed such exercises in the past too, arguing that it increases tension in the region. However, US military spokesman Colonel Robert Bunn clarified that Washington is fully committed to its allies and regional security.
