Will the Hormuz crisis not end? Rubio furious over Iran’s ‘deal plan’
US on Iran Proposal: America US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen Hormuz with strict conditions. Rubio clearly said that this proposal is not acceptable to America and other countries. He also reiterated that the important objective of America’s campaign is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
According to reports, Iran has given a new proposal to America, in which it has been said to open Hormuz and end the current tension. It has also been suggested in this proposal that talks on the nuclear program should be postponed to later stages. According to the report of Axios, this information has been given by an American official and two sources related to this matter.
What is Hormuz?
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and about 20 percent of the world’s oil and LNG is transported through this route, hence its strategic importance is very high.
What did Rubio say on Hormuz?
In an interview with Fox News, Rubio said that Iran has a different view on this waterway from the rest of the world. He said, “According to Iran, opening Hormuz means that you can use it only if you take their permission or agree to their conditions, otherwise you will have to bear the risk.”
Rubio said that this is not in any way an opening of waterways, because these are international waterways and no one country can control them. He warned that such a system cannot be allowed to become normal, in which Iran decides who will use this route and how much will have to be paid for it.
What did Rubio say on nuclear talks?
On the proposal to postpone talks on the nuclear program, Rubio said that he is confident that if the current regime in Iran remains in place, it will try to acquire nuclear weapons in the future. He said that this is the real issue and it is necessary to deal with it. It is clear from Rubio’s statement that America does not like the current regime very much.
When he was asked whether Iran was serious about this agreement, he said that Iran is an expert in negotiations and was trying to buy time. He said that America will have to ensure that any agreement is such that Iran can never move rapidly towards nuclear weapons.
At the same time, White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said that President Donald Trump’s national security team met on this issue on Monday and discussed Iran’s proposal. However, he did not give any detailed information regarding the results of this meeting or America’s stance on the proposal. He said that Trump himself will give information about this later.
